The Yoga Certification Board (YCB) is a government-established board under the Ministry of AYUSH in India. It is the sole board authorized by the government for certifying professionals in the field of Yoga. The YCB operated under the MDNIY (Murarji Desai National Institute of Yoga) and was established in March 2018 to execute and implement the certification scheme.
YCB offers certifications for Yoga professionals at different levels and categories based on their skills and competencies. These categories range from basic Yoga protocol to Yoga master, and from assistant Yoga therapist to Yoga Therapy Consultant. The board aims to introduce additional levels in the future.
Certification by YCB promotes Yoga as a viable career option, providing organized and standardized career opportunities. Certified Yoga Professionals gain access to enhanced job prospects globally. The board also provides certificates for Yoga professionals to practice Yoga as therapy, thereby promoting Yoga as a therapeutic tool. The certification process ensures standardization, quality, and the correct practice and teaching of Yoga, leading to a healthy lifestyle. The availability of trained and certified Yoga Professionals and Institutions empowers the public to choose the right Yoga instructor, trainer, or Yoga institution.
Previously, the Quality Council of India (QCI) managed the Scheme for the Certification of Yoga Professionals until May 2018. From June 2018 onwards, the Ministry of AYUSH transferred the responsibility of the scheme to the Yoga Certification Board (YCB) for the certification of Yoga professionals and accreditation of Yoga institutions/centres.
